Public Charge, Protected Areas, And Boosting Immigrant Access to Safety Net Programs (22NUT003)

Description
The US Department of Homeland Security has started taking steps to reverse the chilling effects left by previous immigration policies. Two positive changes are the new proposed Public Charge rule released in February and the Protected Areas memo released in October 2021 which details the limitations on immigration enforcement activity at and near community spaces that provide vital services for families. Both policies are steps in the right direction to improve immigrant enrollment and the usage of safety net programs available to them.

During this webinar, the Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition and the Tennessee Justice Center will provide an overview of DHS's updated policies on the public charge rule and protected areas affecting immigrants. This presentation also covers the most popular safety net programs available to immigrant families in Tennessee.
